Chandni Dey has bagged a part in Cactus Flower,
touted to be an international project. Bong girl Chandni Dey has been roped in, to play a part in an international project titled
"Cactus Flower".
Talking about how she bagged the project, Chandni, who has now shifted base from Mumbai to Kolkata and has already tested
Tollywood water with Rahasya-The Bhoutik, says, “Ramesh Pimple suggested my name to Anjan da. I am excited about this project as I consider the role to be pretty challenging.” Chandni, who is keen to be part of Tollywood, has also been roped in for another Bengali project, titled
"Bhalobasha Phire Pelam".
The story of Cactus Flower revolves around four generations of women all belonging to the same family.Ramesh Pimple, who is behind the story, screenplay and concept of the film elaborates, “It takes off from the time and age when women were considered equals. It is the story of Durga, Sukanya, Dolly and Sujata.
The story takes off with Durga being married to an old man, who suffers a paralytic attack on his wedding night. She is next forced to enter into a physical relationship with her brother-in-law. Durga eventually gives birth to a girl child tentatively named Sukanya’s. She eventually separates from her husband. Sukanya’s child, Dolly, is sent to London and grows up to be VJ. Dolly has a live-in relationship with two men and in due course, gives birth to Sujata. Sujata comes to India to meet her great grandmother and her find her roots. She then decides to pursue her education in
Kolkata and becomes actively involved with the cause of Adivasis. The story takes a turn when she goes missing. What happens to her is what the film is all about.
Interestingly, Cactus Flower will be a bilingual
film to be shot in English and Bengali. Says Ramesh Pimple, “This project will be partially funded and produced by an UK based production house. A major portion of the story will have London as the backdrop. Shooting will also happen in
Kolkata and Purulia.
As for the cast, Anjan says, “We would like to rope in someone like Sharmila Tagore or Wahheeda Rahaman. But things are at a very preliminary stage now, “says the film-maker signing off”, I am planning to have some English actor too for the project.
